Buncombe Brief Book Review: 11/22/63 by Stephen King

I am a fan of Stephen King, which I know isn’t the case for everyone, but as of late, reading through more of his novels, or rereading some, I’ve renewed my love for Mr. King.  While I know a lot of people aren’t big fans of horror, which I understand, there are certain novels by the King that have elements of the supernatural, but are fantastic reads for those who may want a more unique story without monsters.

11/22/63 is one of King’s books that follows a man who finds, let’s call it, a weak point in time which allows him to hop back in time to 1958.  From here, he experiments a few times with being back, decades from 2011, where our main character resides. Eventually, he decides to save President Kennedy from being assassinated.  Through this process he begins his journey to save Kennedy but meets others in need along the way, finds a woman, falls in love, but realizes that his time traveling has numerous consequences and even knowing the future isn’t enough to make his task an easy one.

I think this is one of King’s better, more recent novels, published 8 years ago, and it’s a fantastic look at what one man does when he has a chance to “go back and change it all.”  It left me with a lot of thoughts on what I would do in a similar situation or if I could just travel back and how I would change things. Also, if I did go back in time, would I change things? Every step that was can impact what is now.

While I’m sure this wasn’t the intent of this fun novel, but it really made me think about the decisions I make now because they can have incredible consequences, for the good or bad, in the future.  I’d highly recommend this novel for fans or foes of Stephen King alike.
